Thank you so much for connecting us with Andrei to be our guide on our climbing holiday in Romania, and, therefore, for making this the most memorable climbing holiday we’ve ever had! We spoke beforehand, told him what we are capable of and what we are looking for, and we can’t imagine that he could have accommodated our wishes any better. (When we go on a climbing holiday, we don’t want to push our limits, but rather to have as much fun as possible, and to enjoy the climbing and just being outdoors.) He picked the first sport climbing routes at Pietrele lui Solomon and on Tampa (near Brasov) perfectly, as they had just the right amount of spice (for their grades) to make us feel like we’re not climbing ladders. J The classic Creasta Generalului in Cheile Rasnoavei was our first multi-pitch experience—and MAN, what an experience!! There were a couple of freaky moments, but Andrei’s excellent guidance and his calm, softly-spoken words, made them vanish into thin air. While for the last day we had initially planned something else, we ended up, at Andrei’s suggestion, hiking the Seven Stairs Canyon in the Piatra Mare Mountains near Brasov, and then hiking a bit more to another sport climbing area; being tired, we didn’t end up climbing that much, but the amount of stuff we learned through the various conversations that day MORE than made up for this.

Andrei’s calm reassurances in times of stress, his willingness to impart his knowledge (not only about the current activity but also about everything around—history, flora, fauna), his thorough understanding of so many types of climbing, his ability to readjust plans based on how the day went, and the way in which he explains things so thoroughly… all these show how passionate he is about what he does, and make him the incredible and amazing person that he is. Thanks so much Your Guide Romania and Ciri for the great climbing experience! My friend and I hired Ciri in the Autumn of ’15 to climb Rasnov Gorge. I recently hired him again this Spring to climb the Animal Wall in the same region. We did a great, mid-length route up an arete known as Deer. Ciri is an expert climber with a great knowledge of Romania’s geography and history – and excellent English too. I look forward to my next trip.

When I came to Romania to climb I planned to go out 6 times with Ciri. That turned out to be a very good decision on my part. He made every day an exciting experience in a beautiful part of the world. Some climbs were fun crusers and some had challenging cruxes. Even though I specified no long approaches, so I wouldn’t wear myself out, he was able put together plenty of trad and sport routes and combined these with some scenic surprises as well. These climbs included three six pitch routes. The final one was Piatra Altarului which overlooks the Bicaz Gorge. The view of the Gorge from the final pitches was awesome. Ciri is a great guide to climb with.

My sister and I had great pleasure meeting Ciri during our trip to Fagaras Mountains this past September. Both Ciri and Cristi work great as a team and their seamless process planning and communicating made us feel very reliable.
For three nights/four days, we’ve had fog, cloud, rain, hail, snow storm… experienced all four seasons but Ciri had guided us through it all and made us feel very safe in all circumstances. We couldn’t have asked better guide and they really worked hard trying to make us feel comfortable, safe and enjoyable at the same time.

I want to start my review with a big Thank You towards Ciri whom we met on a beautiful Sunday towards our trip to Vf. Omu starting from Valea Glajeriei. It was first day after a few rainy and besides the great sunny day we had the privilege to meet Ciri, who is very friendly and passionate about nature. Not just that we had a very nice company towards the peak, but also got a learn a lot about the plants and flowers around, stories from other mountain routes and a real guided track even without having it planned 🙂 Plus we got a lift by car even without asking for it which cut off 5km of a flat surface towards the beginning of the path.
Even if our routes split once we reached the peak-as me and my friend had to get down to another town, am always looking forward to meeting Ciri on another mountain track again.
As we learnt so many from them, am sure that anyone else who will have Ciri as a guide will have a great time and get to know better the Romanian mountains in a safe and unique way!

Cristoph and me, Swiss mountaineers, experienced 4 great and exceptional days ski touring with our Romanian friends Cristi, Adi and Alex on the Fagaras NE ridge. It was the first time we traveled to the Romanian mountains but, for sure, it will not be the last time. We very much appreciated not only the professionalism of our tour guides Cristi and Adi but also the personal friendship we received from our Romanian hosts. We enjoyed the great nature of the Fagaras mountains and had also lots of fun together. We firmly hope to come back next year to experience the rest of the ridge. Ciri guided me to the wild Malaiesti Valley on a ski tour I will never forget. His knowledge of the mountains is impressing. During this day we saw tracks of bear, wild boar and deer and spotted several groups of black Carpathian chamois, the beautiful capra neagra!
Ciri turned out to be a very good coach, attentive, talkative and motivating.

I’m writing this review mainly for two reasons. First of all I would like to express again my thanks to Cristi for the whole joy and delight he brought to my son that turns 10 soon and started skiing almost six years ago, also with Cristi. The dilemma my son now has is to decide what he liked the most: the huge progress in skiing he made so quick due to the training with Cristi, the lot of fun he had during the time with him or the wonderful experience of flying together over the mountains, almost as free as a bird. All friends and school mates of my son have to bear again and again his stories about these experiences. And frankly speaking I can only subscribe to his enthusiasm cause I was myself filled with delight, enthusiasm and even proud when seeing what they did and what my son accomplished.

And so I reach the second reason why I’m writing this, namely to highly recommend Cristi as a ski trainer to whomever would read this or listen what I have to say about. I already noticed that he is an excellent trainer for adults. But what he is doing with kids is absolutely amazing. This is something he is borne for!

As for paragliding I’d say only this: neither my wife nor myself would have entrusted our son to fly with someone who didn’t convinced us first that he is 100% to be trusted. But with Cristi we would let our son do that again and again, which he’d do more than gladly.

My friends and I had the good fortune of meeting Ciri at about 1600 meters on our way down from a very challenging trek in the Carpathian mountains near the village of Zarnesti. About an hour earlier, our group of 9 had determined that we were out of time to continue to the 2200m peak we were aiming for which would have offered an easier path down than the one we ascended. We knew the return on the same unmarked trail was going to be difficult but we didn’t know of another option. Luckily, our chance meeting with Ciri and Radu near a refuge provided the opportunity to have a professional guide who is familiar with the area lead us back safely.

Ciri was particularly helpful to me – at that point, I was outside of my comfort zone and my confidence had been shaken. As we came upon a steep rock face where one miscalculated move would have surely resulted in severe injuries – or worse, I was unable to climb down on my own. Ciri guided me through every step, providing clear instructions while easing my fear with his confidence, encouragement and a bit of humor when appropriate. He continued to ensure that I and the rest of the group had any necessary help as we continued down the mountain.

After our successful and injury-free descent, Ciri pointed us back to our gite and despite our offers he declined to accept any payment – or even a beer. He and Radu, like so many people we met in the region were genuinely friendly and helpful … Ciri obviously has a lot of experience and passion for what he does as well as extensive knowledge of the region and extreme patience.

Looking back, I honestly wonder what the outcome might have been had we not bumped into Ciri on the trail. I am extremely grateful for his help which very well may have saved my life. I would recommend him as a guide without hesitation and will certainly book a ‘Your Guide’ tour upon my next visit to Romania.

I am writing these lines to report about a great holiday in Brasov in Autumn 2013. I also want to thank “Your Guide” and especially Cristi who acted as MY guide during the holiday in the area. It was supposed to be a week for paragliding and it turned out to become quickly a week for hiking and tasting the delicious local food and beer. Nothing to do with the guide, it was the weather’s fault, entirely: cold, windy and rainy – a most unusual September.

Still, for paragliding, we could enjoy a few flights at Lempes – Sânpetru. I discovered then Piatra Mare – Bunloc where the drive up the mountain is more impressive than the flight. For hiking, Piatra Craiului is a must to see as well as Fagaras mountains. I enjoyed my week in the Carpathian mountains. Thank you Cristi for making these days a rich experience that I will never forget and I am sure I will be back soon to Brasov.

Once again I have the chance to find Ciri Turcanu available for climbing. This time due to the weather and my llack of training we decide to climb the Twisted Fissure wich is eassy to reach from Busteni by an nice 1.5 Hrs. walk by beech and fir forest,and for the quit retreat by rappeling in the case of rain. We quik pass the Costila Cottage and we reach the climbing route,we start with Ciri leading, the nice climb for 4 rope lenghts with large regrouping platforms recured with new expanding pittons much safer than the 80′. The view over the Costila-Galbinele Ridge and Eagles Wall is realy fantastic and motivated for the next adventures. We continue the climb over the ridge wich this days is secured with a fixed rope for more safety and reach the tree for 25 meters rappeling after wich we land on the valley. It was a nice day recalling the 80′,in my case I climb this route back in 1985 and Ciri in 1980, for I thanks again Ciri for unchanged fellowship.

Our week long ski touring trip to the Southern Carpathians, guided by the charismatic and adventurous Cristi, allowed us to look into the wilderness of several different mountain ranges. Cristi’s instinctive knowledge of the mountains enabled us to climb amongst the wind blown peaks and ski some excellent powder. Cristi guided us through this untouched landscape without troubling himself with the need of a map and kept us away from any other ski tracks; the only other tracks we found were of the bear variety. This summer we went with a scouts group of about 22 15-17 year old and 3 leaders of 21-22 years old. We had an amazing time. The girl guides/scouts still speak of the beautiful hiking experience, the adventures and beautiful views in Piatra Craiului till today. Your Guide is a sublime organization that’s very professional, clear in communication and that completely attunes to the needs of the group.

Our group spent several days hiking in the Piatra Craiului and Bucegi Mountains and touring Brasov and the surrounding sites including Bran and Peles castles. Cristi and Ciri planned an amazing trip for our group. They speak excellent English, are very organized and managed a large group brilliantly. They are great listeners and were constantly checking in to ensure that our expectations were met. They were aware of our needs and very flexible. During our hikes they would share the history of the area, tell stories about their many rock climbing and paragliding experiences and tell lots of funny jokes.

We always felt safe and in good hands. They picked great hostels and made excellent restaurant recommendations. You could always count on a smile, a friendly conversation and a great attitude. It’s clear that they love what they do and want their clients to have a memorable experience while in Romania. I can’t say enough about how much fun we had and in large part that was because of Cristi and Ciri.

Our group of 13 had the pleasure of spending 4 fun-filled memorable days with Cristi and Ciri in the Piatra Craiului and Bucegi Mountains as well as several days in Brasov. My husband and I had the pleasure to do rock climbing with Ciri for two amazing days July 2012. Mit Ciri als Bergführer von der Firma Your Guide Romania habe ich im Juli 2012 den höchsten Gipfel (Peleaga 2509 m) des Retezat – Gebirges (Südkarpaten) bestiegen.
Die Organisation unserer Tour ließ keine Wünsche offen, angefangen mit der Abholung auf dem Hermannstädter Flughafen, Transport zum Startpunkt Carnic, Reservierung der besten Plätze in der Schutzhütte “Gentiana” und nicht zuletzt Auswahl und Zubereitung der Speisen.
Obwohl wir uns bis zu dieser Tour nicht kannten, fühlte ich mich wie in Begleitung eines langjährigen Freundes.

Ich empfehle Ciri als kompetenten, warmherzigen Bergführer und die Firma Your Guide Romania als gute Adresse sowohl für Touristen welche erstmals die Karpaten erkunden als auch für eingefleischte Siebenbürgen-Fans – es gibt immer noch was zu entdecken.

We can warmly recommend “Your Guide Romania”, and especially Cristi, who was our main point of contact from the inception of the idea to conduct a guided tour of Romania till we finalized the details , and our personal tour guide during the trip.

We started with a desire to see places tied to our family history, but also wanted to see the highlights of the country, and include some hiking in nice places as well. The challenge was that we had a mix of older grandparents, younger adults, teenagers and young kids, and we had to plan an itinerary that would cater to everyone’s desires and capabilities.

Cristi took our preliminary plan and guidelines, and provided valuable feedback. Once we agreed on the details, Cristi took care of all the logistics and arrangements, and spent the entire time with us during the trip, from our arrival at the airport till our departure. All the monetary arrangements and fees turned out exactly as promised with no surprises whatsoever.

Everything worked as planned, and when we encountered unforeseen challenges, Cristi was quick to address them. Particularly, Cristi is a mountain person so he knew when it was safe to go up for hiking and which route will be the best fit to our family’s diverse hiking abilities to enjoy the beautiful scenery. He was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and flexible when things didn’t go exactly according to the plan due the diversity of our group members. Cristi helped us bridge the language barrier, provided valuable information about the different places we saw, and ensured our safety during the trip.

We got an excellent service, and we would not hesitate to recommend Cristi and “Your Guide Romania” to anybody planning a trip to Romania, who wants a special, pleasant, and unique memorable experience.

We want to share with you a wonderful experience we had this summer.
We find Your Guide Romania and Cristi from the internet. Were in contact with him and decided for a 16 days trip through mostly Transylvania,visiting our birth place and the same time hiking in the mountains.We were altogether 9 persons,we,our daughter,her husband and 5 grandchildren between 6 and 18 years old.
We travel a lot but never so easy,no need to drive – our driver Marcel was just wonderful,calm,easy going and a very nice person.There was no need to find accommodation,everything was arranged by our guide,all had nice clean air conditioned rooms,breakfast,and every thing we needed.
And now,last but not least,our guide Cristi,well prepared,gave us all his attention and took us not only to places we asked but to nice and exciting places not only to the children but for us also. This trip will remain unforgettable and for this many thanks to Cristi.

Spent a week with Ciri for trad rock climbing. Never been to Romania before. Hit by a snow front but had the best time hiking and sightseeing the historical sites. Sun came out and did an amazing climb on Animals Wall. What can I say…a very professional organisation that knows the area as they were born there. Great knowledge of local history. I have been hiking with Cristi on numerous occasions in the mountains of Korea. Cristi is a true outdoorsman whose heart and soul belong to the mountains. Während meiner Rumänientour im August 2010 war ich mit Ciri eine ganze Woche in dem Königssteingebirge (Piatra Craiului) unterwegs. Wir hatten ein wunderschönes Wetter und somit die besten Voraussetzungen für unsere Bergtouren gehabt. Einige der Höhepunkte waren die Besteigung des höchsten Gipfels des Königsteingebirges „La Om“ (2239 m), sowie die Wanderungen zu den felsigen Formationen Cerdacul Stanciului, Zaplaz, Anghelide und zu anderen Plätze.

Diese Wanderungen haben mir unvergessliche Eindrücke über die wunderschönen Berglandschaften und über die Karpatenwälder hinterlassen. Ciri ist für mich ein hervorragender Bergführer der die Wanderwege bestens kennt und die Touristen gut motivieren kann. Er hat mir während der Bergtouren ein hohes Maß an Sicherheit und Wohlbefinden vermittelt und gleichzeitig vieles über das Königsteingebirge erzählt.

Ich werde diese Bergtouren in guter Erinnerung behalten, danke Ciri herzlich für diese einzigartigen Erlebnisse und wünsche ihm weiterhin viel Erfolg bei seinen nächsten Führungen.

I have had the pleasure of hiking, climbing, and skiing with Cristi on many occasions. He possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in outdoor mountain activities. I have hiked with Cristi several times now and I want to acclaim how much I have enjoyed these trips as a testament to him.
Cristi has a huge element of confidence which makes you feel completely safe and secure in your surroundings. For me, this is the most important part about hiking / climbing as, if you hesitate, you my get yourself into trouble. His leadership skills ensured our group kept on schedule and gave us enough time to enjoy our breaks and of course the views at the top. His knowledge of the surroundings, terrain, conditions and equipment was excellent and I felt completely comfortable being under his supervision. His English is also excellent and he has a great sense of humour.

I know Ciri Turcanu from more than 25 years as one of the best climbing&mountaineering mate. Most recently I have the privilege to climb again with Ciri in both winter and summer occasions in Piatra Craiului mountains. Due to my present job, offshore rope access supervisor I loose some of my previous skills in mountaineering but I discover Ciri as the same excellent climber as he was in the 80′ which give me the chalange to reach the same climbing skills. I strongly recommend Ciri Turcanu as one of the best guides for outdoor activities in Romania to all nature lovers mates.

Thank you Cristi for spending these 3 days with us!
First of all, you helped us to discover more about Romanian culture by showing us Brasov, the fortified church from Prejmer and the Rasnov Fortress. And then, thanks to you, we were able to see so magnificient landscapes while surpassing ourselves. I wouldn’t have climbed that kind of mountain without a professionnal guide. How hard it was for 2 non sportive persons but how proud we were at the top of Piatra Craiului!!! I will keep these pictures in my mind for the rest of my life.
A shame not to have had enough time to experience paragliding, maybe next time!!

Paragliding is amazing! I had this wonderful experience, twice, of flying with Cristi, and I would do it again and again. He is a really trustful person and very joyful and optimistic. I had made quite a few trips with Ciri Turcanu. He is a really full of quality mountain guide ,full of patience,allways in very good shape,a brilliant rock climber ,he has a perfect knowdlege of mountains like Bucegi ,Piatra Craiului ,Fagaras ,Postavaru ,Piatra Mare ,Ciucas ,Baiului and so on.He is also perfect capable to guide from an easy 2-3 hours hike to a full day hardest climb in Bucegi mountains .I remember the day that I spend with him in april 2010 in Piatra Craiului .For me that trip was a very dificult climb ,but the presence of Ciprian really makes me able to pass all the obstacles and to really enjoy the trip .I can go with him anytime with 100% confidence .
